Once you have installed R and have it running (see here), it is a simple matter to install the R-commander GUI. Although this can be achieved using the pull-down menus in some R-consoles, the following procedure demonstrates the installation using the command line, as this applies to all platforms.
Install Rcmdr
To install Rcmdr, simply input the following command into an R-console...
A separate window will open up for you to identify a site close to your location (my closest mirror is located in Bristol, UK). Highlight your location and press OK.
The CRAN mirror site will then provide a list of packages that are available to download. There are m
any packages available (currently, well over 2,000) and you will need to scroll down to the Rcmdr package...
Highlight 'Rcmdr' and press OK
Note: you may need to permit a directory to be set up for the library files.
The Rcmdr package will install and provide some information about the installation in the R-console. Installation is complete when the R-console shows an empty command line: >

Running Rcmdr
All that is required now is to load Rcmdr by issuing the following command in the R-console...
Note: Windows users can also load Rcmdr using the pull-down menu in R-console;
Packages, Load Package..., select Rcmdr, OK.
If this is the first time you have loaded Rcmdr, it is likely that a number of libraries it uses (libraries that deal with data importation, statitical analyses and graphics) are not yet available on your system. Rcmdr will ask if it can install any libraries that are not present. You should allow the package to automatically install these libraries from CRAN.
Once it has installed all the packages (this can take some time), the Rcmdr GUI will load...
